Hi! Welcome to Fluff and Nonsense.

My name is Tess - I started this business in Melbourne, Australia in June 2022.

I can’t sit still and watch TV or a movie with nothing in my hands - I have a constant need to do something. My brain just won’t let me sit and do nothing. It’s constantly badgering me. So I knit. Or crochet. My mum initially taught me to knit when I was about 10 or 11, and I made a terrible, holey, scratchy scarf. I didn’t really knit again until my early twenties, when my sister in law taught me for the second time. I made my now husband a very wonky patchwork blanket as a Christmas gift (which he still has). Over the years I have fallen in love with all the beautiful shades of yarn, the project possibilities, and the different textures you can use and create. I wanted to share this love, so here I am, sharing my favourite yarns and colours with you.

Fluff and Nonsense used to be a part time side hustle. During the day, I would work in a laboratory as a research assistant. Then, at night, I transformed into a yarn dyer. Then we moved house in 2023, and I realised I didn’t particularly want to have commute up to 90 minutes each way to work. So I took the plunge, quit my job, and made Fluff and Nonsense my full time job. It is so much more than I thought it would be. There is yarn dyeing yes, but there’s preparation of skeins, wholesale orders, advertising, photography, samples to make, markets to attend, patterns to design. It’s fun and I love it, and I’m so glad I created F&N.

I firmly believe in whimsy, ridiculousness, and the joy of small things. Be prepared to see silly pictures from my Instagram, interruptions from my cats, Lego minifigs marauding through my yarn, and pictures of dye-stained fingers from when I forget to wear gloves.
